You need DOB certificate at I 485. I am not sure whether Police Certificate is needed at 485 stage or not. What I am curious is will the USCIS accept DOB certificate from the Indian Embassy or would require it back from the applicants place of birth. A person whom I know has recently requested for DOB certificate and it took almost 45 days in his native place in India.

brilliant idea...if some of us are able to get off the queue and give more visa numbers to others waiting helps everybody. Along with US homes being sold could add some value. Hats off to nixtor.

You also know what I am stating. You already have heard the word"Pre-adjudication" which means "To assign number" based on monthly bulletin based EB table dates and then put a file on shelf to eat dust till USCIS can "approve 485" /"Send Physical greencard" based on Prority date becomes active based on "country specific limit"
If assigning number is almost equivalent to granting visa in a few days then there should not be hundreds of applicants waiting in "pre-adjudication" queue. We all know that many people have been pre-adjudicated and now they are just waiting for their physical GCs.

What if only few countries ONLY can supply the required skilled labor sufficiently and no other countries countries can?

My immigration lawyer laughed when I asked about a possibility of filing WOM to force action on my stalled I-485. So I proceeded myself. Yes, I did many mistakes but I ultimately prevailed. AILF lawyer and Assistant US Attorney could not believe that an ordinary programmer can write quality legal briefs and challenge the government. Some of my friends did not bother with WOM and are still waiting while others followed and received green cards. If you think outside of the box, you can achieve something others could not.

I don't know how much to trust these sources. I am very nervous though.

Maybe Indians don't have balls, but there is something called cultural exchange which every country share with each another. Now if SRK decides that US immigration has mistreated him and he decides not to enter US, world is not going to fall down. Recently I heard that HOLLYWOOD wants to come BOLLYWOOD to make investments, maybe out of bussiness sense HOLLYWOOD should support SRK. I am surprised that this is even a headline news in TOI. SRK detained at US airport for 2 hours. So what? Big deal. TSA didn't ask him to sing or dance, but just questioned him on the purpose of his visit, which is part of their job.
US has got every right to protect her homeland and no one has got any right to question their procedures when it comes to national security. Because of such stronger measures there hasn't been a single terrorist incident in US since 09/11. The least we could do is to learn from them and implement such stronger measures in India, which by the way has become a playground for terrorists and anti social elements.

I have filled my Green card in Eb3 category. I am planning to now file it in Eb2 Category, but want to retain my Eb3 Priority date (which is 2005) . Please let me know:
1) How does it affect my current Green card process in case of Rejection of New ( Eb2) or Query on it( RFE).
2) If a different employer files my green card in EB2 category, at what stage will I have to join this new employer. I am planning to let my new (future) employer file GC in Eb2 while I continue working for my old employee. I will then join the new employer after getting the green card. Is this possible? I want this EB2 case to have the same priority date as EB3.
3) I Have Already filled 485 in Eb3 category , Do I have to file I485 in Eb2 Again or my Previous Eb3 485 Transfered to this New Eb2 Category
4) If I have to file New I485 in Eb2 in that case what happened to My Eb3 485

This should not be a silly topic and won't be...I want to take this opportunity to bring the bigger issue here... things happen for a reason... we all need to understand that we have to make a positive out of this issue... Atleast all educated folks like us should be able to channel our wisdom to those folks who feels that they are above all... That kind of mentality should need to change in INDIA for people like SRK and politicians and lot of business tycoons.... I believe this incident is very good opportunity, one more time, once again for all those conscious folks who live here US and INDIA to make things better for life.

My point here is "Respect should be given by that acts that you do in life...should not be given just by demand"
All I am saying is that "IN INDIA WE GOT SOOOOOOO MANY PROBLEMS TO SOLVE" why SRK cribbing about this incident... and innocent/ignorant and un educated folks going crazy over there.... instead he can do lot of better things in INDIA so that he can be recognized all over the world and given respect.
EDUCATION, EDUCATION AND EDUCATION is the only solution for all the problems in the world.
Well - world is definitely a beautiful place. World is beautiful because of beautiful good people. Like there is a saying "How is house different from a home? House maybe be beatiful and big but it is a home ONLY if it is a happy place to live" and making the world our home lies in how we make sure that it is a happy place to live.
While your approach towards solving the problems is "education" in my opinion education does help, but that is NOT the only factor. Change happens gradually. Don't we all agree that the most educated people might be the biggest "problem creators"
WRT snathan - he is a personal friend and I know him. He is sympathetic towards poor and downtrodden and wants to fight against injustice etc.....
To snathan - to understand things in a better perspective, I recommend that you try this. Invite 30 hungry, poor, starving people to your house and provide them with food, education, good life and ask them to seek opportunities to better themselves. You may face the following
(1) People may get more demanding
(2) They may fight among themselves
(3) Some might steal from you
(4) Some might get into unethical activities
(5) Some might disrespect you and step over you
(6) They may show more respect to those who did not care for them and curse you for some silly reason.
You might find some good people who really do what you intend them to do.
Why I say this is - there is no GOOD POOR MAN nor BAD RICH MAN - different people behave different in different circumstances.
Did you know that India's independence struggle, American civil liberty struggle were all funded by rich businessmen - they trusted the leaders and gave a lot of money for campaigns for them to be successful.

I felt very bad and compleately moved when I was read about Mehul at that time. He was not able to get the GC in time just because he was born in India, even though he is from Fiji. During the last days of his life he was more worried about his family settlement, than his death, and moved them to sweeden. I hope this kind of sitution wont repeat to any immigrant.

I thought we're not supposed to pay for H1 and GC. Correct me if I'm wrong? I guess we can only pay for the visa appointment fee.
I came here in 1999, at that time employer was not bound to pay for H1-B expense. Later USCIS enforced the law and now most employer do pay for H1-B.
However for GC, its the employer's discretion and there is no written rule as who should bear the cost fo GC filing. I paid for mine.
