I am already a HOMEOWNER but I think this bill is good for all as those who buy new homes move out of the line & we move quicker. Congress works in strange ways & if the core thinks this is the best way to get around it & including current homeowners will be a dealbreaker I am for it....Lets support what we can get.

Dear Attorney,
I have an approved H1B petition, but was given 221(g) during consular interview due to lack of license to practice my proffession in US. They instructed me to submit the license within one year to stamp the H1B visa.
Now I am comming to US on a Visitors visa to write the licensing exam and to get licenced.
I am aware of the aware of possibility of changing status from Visitors visa to H1B after getting licence without leaving US, since I already have an approved
H1B.
But I came to know that USCIS will take around 90 days to approve status change from Visitors visa to H1B.
Kindly clarify whether I can start working for my H1B employer immediately after filing status change with USCIS, or do I need to wait till the approval, to start working.

I cannot believe there are 9 pages (and counting) worth of sentiments, because some lame talentless guy was subject to security checks at an International Airport. I'm someone who was born India, but never lived there - however I'd think there are incredibly talented Indians here in America and worldwide compared to someone who's used to blatant exploitation / sell out of Indian culture. Lets not bring Age into the picture. Manmohan is not much younger either and has had 2 heart surgeries so far. Economy is not the PMs only job. The real power rests with Sonia and my personal opinion is that Advani is a lot more competent than her. Manmohan is just a mask of Congress. "Mukhvta".

It's a sad day indeed for India(and AP in particular) to loose a dynamic leader with a vision. Go to every village in Andhra and ask them are they better off now compared to six years ago. YSR did a lot to AP, would have done much more if he lived.
He made money, most of it legally, by establishing companies and getting contracts and positioning them for growth. Everyone had opportunity to do it. He also did a lot for poor people. Show me any other politician in india who had the vision or energy YSR has. Now that he died, it's really sad that we come up with so many things against him.
Look at US media/people, kennedy died last week, did they say everything he got was because he was born as kennedy, he is indeed born into the family and family choose him as a senator when JFK became president. he became senator because of his birth, but he did lot of good, fought for health care, immigration and against war.
It's not how you got the opportunity, but what you did with opportunity. YSR was born in middle class family, he climbed the ladder thru hard work. kennedy was born into wealth/privileage, he used it to further liberty. My 2 cents.
USCIS does not control the PD dates, State dept does. The state dept will change the PD's to when it runs out of visas to provide USCIS.
Case 1: Assume USCIS and State dept are in close touch over the currently approvable I-485s which can consume visas starting July 1
If USCIS has 40K such approvable apps, then the State Dept (being in close coordination with USCIS abt numbers) would have just moved the dates to Nov 2005 for EB-2 India the date when it retrogressed and similarly to the date when EB-3 retrogression first happened for India.
The fact that they did not do this means they do not have the sufficient numbers of approvable ones. Now the new ones filed in June or July will not become approvable until at least 90 days. So if they are hoping that some of the "new" 485 petitions filed in June/July will be straightforward enuf to approve in 4 months, they have to keep dates at current at least until July end.
Case 2: USCIS and State dept are not coordinating "closely" over the approvable numbers
This means the State dept arbitrarily changed the dates to Current instead of consulting with USCIS that they have 40K approvable petitions. And why woudl they in that case make the numbers unavailable in mid-july in that case?

Dont insult a whole state....dont blame/depend on other people in making your decisions...
I need to hear more stories like this to realize I won't be alone when time comes for me to pack up.
I am from A.P. Lot of folks from my state in India can't accept anything but USA outside A.P. Me and my wife really like to live and work in other parts of world and we have even asked my company to send us out of USA. The only reason for me at this point to pursue GC is for my wife be able to work part-time.
Otherwise, I am very content being on H1.

While it is a good idea to educate the congress regarding the impact the EB Green Card applicants could have on the Housing Market. It is a terrible idea to propose a legislation which would offer GCs to applicants who would purchases houses in US. To put it bluntly, the legislation seems to be meant for selling GCs to applicants who are in a position to afford it, offering GC to applicants who will invest in housing market is akin to giving out GCs for cash and there is already a category for that. How would one factor in the CP applicants like nurses and PT who are waiting in their home countries?
The idea should be modified to spread the message regarding the positive impact that the EB GC applicants could have on the housing market and not to create a niche category of EB applicants who can purchase their GC to scoot ahead of other less fortunate ones. This proposal should be nipped in the bud before some anti immigrant group or advocate like Lou gets wind of it.

I know this guy who was a junior to me and reporting to me in India. I resigned and moved with another company and later moved to US. After an year I joined the same company which I was working in India. Now this guy, just because having some relation with the VP made some arrangement and came to US on L1 and applied under EB1 and got his GC in 1.5 years. More over he was no good as manager and a pathetic programmer. Also he did no good to the company actually lost a few clients and when he got his ass on fire he moved to other company and started working as a pathetic programmer with his GC
When I saw this I was so irritated and now thinking what the FUCK this Grassely is doing for this.I think neither we doing anything. He just wants votes by creating sensation among the white rednecks for the next election.

If that were the case then the rest of us must be equlally skeptical of your ideas since you yourself hail from an oversubscribed country. :cool:
All you need to do is listen to the idea with an open mind and see if that makes sense. Obviously the ppl from oversubscribed countries would love to see these restrictions removed (and I can understand that) but please also keep in mind that the people from ROW will think twice about supporting such a move if it's done without other provisions like increasing the total quota, visa recapture, excluding dependents and faster processing times.
On the other hand if you are from "ROW" then all your attempts to kill this ideas will make me understand how scared you are of this idea and hence how good this idea really is. :)

More than 30 people died after learning that he is dead. Very few people can inspire that kind of reverence and affection. He may have his short comings but he achieved more than most can dream of.
It is silly to quote corruption every time you discuss politicians. Show me any major politician of consequence who did not face corruption charges at some time or the other. It is always present in one form or the other since the beginning of politics. We are all watching what is happening with healthcare reform bill here and how powerfull insurance industry is influencing it's outcome.
And who is making these allegations? Surprise, opposition parties and some sections of media that are opposed to him.
His death is definitely a loss to the state. We need competition among politicians and that competition existed between YSR and Babu and I like both of them. Between the two, I think AP progressed overall.
