My friend, the purpose of green card is to allow you to convert into citizenship sometime down the road. If you are not ready and willing to spend your saved money in the US and better its economy, then how can you expect the US goverment to help you?
If you do not have enough money, then you are not paid the prevailing wage or the wage mentioned on the green card. If you do not have a job, how can your green card process still be there arent you illegal already?
To add to all the above, as nixtor has stated, reduced backlogs help everybody.
This is not fair and good idea. what about people waiting in line for years and invested their money elsewhere because of this green card delays or those who do not have enough money and job in this market situation. All of the sudden you are brining this idea. This is not fair. This is kind of buying green card. There is a investment based green card category available for that. I request you to go through that channel if you are rich. Not all employment based green card seekers are rich. Please keep that in mind.

Again wrong information by you and trying to hide background or historical information. Either USDOS/USCIS has not mismanaged the numbers in 2005. Claiming India and China was given more than they entitled to is wrong . They (DOS) did everything right till 2005. Now only they are violating. One has to study the historical issues before 1999. Before 1999, both India and China (both EB2 and EB3) were retrogressed heavily and backlogged. However ROW was current in all EB catagories. There was no retrogression in ROW. It was always current before 1999.

Yes it will, unless there are more EB1I visas which could spill over to EB2I, in which case EB2I will move ahead of EB3I. But that guy has also said that the spill over may not happen because of the demand for EB1I.
Its just unbelievable that EB2I and EB3I (i.e. the persons who have PD when the numbers were calculated) will have to wait for about 19 years to get their GCs. We HAVE to do something about this.

It will be a waste of money. The US does not have to allow any immigration if it chooses so. Do you realize that getting a GC is not a right, but a privelege? It's a matter of grace and no court has jurisdiction to review if government says "no".

Eventhough from a humanitarian point of view, I feel UPA should work with Srilankan government to work out peace. However it is not because the people being killed are Tamilians , who speak the same language as people from my neighbouring state.
I feel sorry for all the civilians who got killed in Iraq, same way.
Now you can't wait to "relinquish" the citizenship of a country that didn't poke it's nose into the affairs of a different sovereign nation as soon as you get the citizenship of another country that is directly responsible for deaths and horrible conditions of scroes more people.
The only reason you are carrying a Indian passport is because it suits you for now. The only condition you are willing to ditch that is when you are sure of a better suited passport for you.
Now express your anger/sympathy or any other emotion but don't pose as if you are doing it for the betterment of world. You put the language people speak over the country one belongs to. Remember the pledge you took during schooling? It said all Indians are my brothers and sisters. If you want to be a world citizen, no issues. People like you are of no use to any country. If you find an issue, work on rectifying it if you have the guts. Don't give dramatic statements like " I too carry the Indian passport with shame"

You cannot compare a recession to retrogression. A recession is a shrinking economy which is a natural correction of supply and demand. Retrogression is an artificial rationing which has no bearing on demand. It is almost un democratic and prejudiced. What they are doing here by imposing caps by country is they are rationing brilliance. Is it our fault that India and China produces more number of PhD�s and engineers than say Kenya or Denmark?
If you are looking for diversity look for it under family immigration and not under employment based immigration.

There is no excess supply in employment based immigration as all EB immigrants are gainfully employed and hence �Employment Based� immigrants. I doubt that they are a significant part of the population waiting for visa numbers.

You can argue all you want of the survival of fittest, but the basic fact is if some one has a PhD in physics and has multiple companies offering jobs, he is not going to stand in line meekly to collect his green card after 10 years. He is going to leg it and go to some other country who will welcome him and his intellect with open arms. So the fittest will be gone and only the mediocre will be left.
The current retrogression is not a way to filter the fittest out; it is just dumb political red tape.

You can argue all you want of the survival of fittest, but the basic fact is if some one has a PhD in physics and has multiple companies offering jobs, he is not going to stand in line meekly to collect his green card after 10 years. He is going to leg it and go to some other country who will welcome him and his intellect with open arms. So the fittest will be gone and only the mediocre will be left.
The current retrogression is not a way to filter the fittest out; it is just dumb political red tape.

Recession occurs in order to cleanse the economy of bohemian excesses and inefficiencies. Do you think that such people are sadists and belong to the mental asylum ? In a similar vein, you need to understand that there were and are huge gaping inefficiencies in the current immigration process. There has to be a way to curb these excesses and inefficiencies. Retrogression may not be the best way but it is the only way utilized right now. My take on this is that if 40,000 visa numbers remain for July, August and September, then USCIS by itself cannot use 40,000 visa numbers in one month alone (i.e. in july), because the DOS just supplies them monthly quotas. So, if you take approx.
18,000 per month, you are looking at 18,000 for July and 18,000 for August. Then, USCIS have to use them. Which means USCIS has to approve 18,000 petitions in July.
As, I have heard that USCIS just started out sending finger print notices this month, because Priority Dates moved a lot in June 2007. Now, the fingerprints, will come in and forwarded to FBI for security clearance. That will take atleast a month. And, all petitions activated for clearance in June 2007 won't get adjudicated till August 31, 2007, because it takes atleast three months, for a case to approve and the visa number to be used. (Remember Visa numbers are allocated on visas used and not how amny people applied). Please share your thoughts. Thats my 2 pennies.
