US history is full of examples where discrimination existed in one form or another and these discriminations were sucessfully challenged. A few examples are women's voting rights, minority voting rights and gerrymandering. These are good examples to study where the affected people had no legal voice to begin with.
The civil rights movement is a recent example. There were existing laws that limited people from voting based on their literacy levels in the southern states. The literacy requirement for voting was really a thinly veiled attempt to limit voting rights of african americans for as long as possible. The civil rights movement was about changing these artificial laws to give voting rights to people who legally had no voice.

Technically I can change my country of citizenship any number of times in my life (cannot, if struck like this GC limbo) or even religion but I cannot change my ethnicity even once because I'm born into it.
I agree Sri Lanka is a sovereign country but why did India poke its nose on the pre-1971 Pakistan and created a new country Bangladesh. Is there a different standard for different people with the Indian govt policies?
Even If I had not got the opportunity to come this great nation United States of America, land of free and country of brave, I would have done whatever I could in India to help the beleaguered Sri Lankan Tamils and protested against the policies of Govt of India toward this issue.
I�m upfront about showing my resentment towards my country of birth and I �don�t show false patriotism/nationalism towards India like other Pseudo-Nationalists, who internally betray India at any moment and ready to change their nationality at the next opportunity but externally portray that they are the guardian of India and it is their soul. This EB quota system reminds me of Caste reservation system in India. To some that is fair, to others, it is unfair. Depends on which side of the fence you are.
if you read the history of immigration this country you will see that such measures are typically taken with restriction in mind not diversity. Diversity is the nice sounding cloak. there is a definite fear that FB will bring in many mexican migrants ( "chain migration") and the country quota holds that back imho. you think it's because of indian programmers? it was made long before those existed. remember we are a minuscule number- don't feel so important- the programmers are about 2% of all immigrants. 11% is all EB, half are families, half again are techies- not all those are programmers. do the math.
also remember that 50,000 Gc are given a year by lottery for "diversity". as a result more bangladeshis get Gc in a year than indians on EB. so why do we need the country quota in EB again?
to the person bringing up caste system and fences, here is my proposal.
i am a physician, i am being held behind hoardes of techies who can easily have PD's much before mine since i am training and working longer and the J1 holds me back. 12 years here and no where in the line...so i should get a fast track too. let's have a cap for the techies...hey it looks great from my side of the fence...i'm sure you will agree that i should be pushed up the line.

I am a prospective home buyer and in the last few months, I met 8 buyer / seller agents ..they are literally sweating for any business ...at the very least let us show the positive contribution that immigrants have for the housing and other related economy (which is massive in terms of $$$$$). I am sure everyone will agree that this is better than fighting over EB1 misuse and fighting amongst ourselves

NKR, my friend, i'm puzzled, u speak of in-state tuition, visa stamping, life insurance.. how is that different for ROWs from others, we are all the same in that, we are all the same being skilled immigrants all of us, when i complain that someone says indians and chinese are here in larger numbers because they are best and brightest and ask them to be sensitive it doesn't mean that we all suffer the same hardships.. when i state the fact that bodyshops contributed to the longer lines for some countries i don't say i'm indifferent to your suffering, but i also say it can't be fixed by making another group suffer

In the past couple of months, EB3-ROW has been getting the same cut-off date as EB-3 CHINA. I don't see any advantage of being EB-3 ROW at all. I think USCIS set up the cut-off date based on estimation on workload, not necessarily fact. Otherwise how could move forward/backward for as long as couple of years in 1 month?

not really..i think we want to give a benefit of doubt to the amway person not to do this and lose our friendship (esp when close friends do this to you). We know how to be tough. Been there done that. I came to a conclusion that people who cannot understand the value of friendship can never be true friends. Esp when my close friend spoiled his friendship with me due to amway.
We desis are too polite and can't say NO easily like others. I have learnt to say NO in the US now, makes my life much easier....be nice and say no politely.

Friends,
The ongoing war between Srilanka and LTTE has grand Indian design and help to Srilanka.
To defeat the so called terrorist organisation LTTE, the whole world is helping Srilanka.
Sonia Gandhi want to avenge the death of her husband.She won't mind killing of thousands of innocent civilians to satisfy her loss in her family. The able primeminister Manmohan singh also became and acting like dumb puppet in this issue.The so called world tamil leader Karunanidhi also joining with Sonia and ditching srilankan tamils.
Two sikhs killed our primeminister Indira. Did we start killing sikhs enmass like the slaughtering of innocent civilians in Srilanka ?.Instead we made Manmohansingh as our primeminister and we are proud of him. That is the real Indian spirit.
LTTE is the creation due to discrimination of Srilankan's Singala only policy.Srilankan tamils fight for their just right in non-violent way initially.When that non-violence activities were crushed by Srilankan government , the disillusioned tamil youths took arms.
Though LTTE did many atrocities, the Srilankan government is not Buddha. They killed many, raped many and encroached the traditional tamil lands.
Even if the present war won by Srilanka government, that country is not going to have peace. Even if Prabakaran and LTTE perished in this war , there will be more Prabakarans will emerge. The seeds are being sown by srilankan government atrocities.
Nelson Mandela was once declared as terrorist by US government.Bagatsingh declared as terrorist by the British.
Time only will tell who is a terrorist and who is a freedom fighter.

Guys! This is getting interesting. Guess what I found!! Now you can find out the names of your local friendly Amway Independent Business owners!!!

I put my own zipcode 94536, and most of the names are desi. Confirms my suspicion that there are more desi's sucked into this than........
Now post what you find in your area!
Totally coincidental but all of IBO's in my zip code are Chinese. I know 2-3 desis myself who approached me in walmart and ikea.

Is the "P" visa category considered a dual intent visa category? Meaning can someone on a P visa apply for permanent residency?
If yes, then is the permanent residency process for a P visa holder the same as someone on an H visa? i.e., get LC, I-140 and then apply for I-485?
