It is always good to have a job offer before you immigrate, but it's ultimately up to the immigrant to find out what it'll take to get on his/her feet in the new country.
After reading (and watching videos of) all those sob stories on notcanada.com and the like about doctors, nurses, engineers who can't get a job or have to study for years to get a Canadian license to practice, I wonder how much of a research those folks did prior to coming to Canada. If a medical occupation requires studying for additional time and taking exams, then you should have learned about it. If engineers of your specialty are not in high demand, you can figure it out by going through Canadian job postings and contacting employers. If you are not willing to look for a job elsewhere but Toronto, then it's your problem: perhaps in Calgary the opportunities are more readily available. I have a friend in Montreal who owns an IT recruitment company. He told me that they are sending IT folks from Ontario to Alberta, since Alberta unemployment rate for IT professionals is currently at 0.5%.
Bottom line is: research for yourself, ask different people, be flexible about where you want to live in the new country (hey, it's the country's demands you need to adjust to, not the other way around!) -- this will save you from many unpleasant surprises.

Is the new Obama Administration going to consider "Instant GC" if we buy a House ? I'm thinking about the huge inventory of vacant house and how many could be bought up by GC holders... Its probably a fraction - Isn't it ?

At first sight of this proposal, those who oppose "non-quota" migth turn off immediately and not be open for further discussion. Imagine, even investor visa has quota of 10,000 per year.
I agree that the current situation might change their minds. This proposal is better than doing nothing at all. I, myself, is not yet buying a house until I get my GC or atleast be sure to get one in the near future. I am worried though that my bank savings will go to drain.

Hi, I am seriously planning to start Canadian immigration after wasting 7 years of my life in chasing GC. Can anybody suggest some good lawyers/attorneies/agencies who are not money suckers like US immigration attornies ? Also, somebody mentioned that one can apply Can immigration by himself. Is there any issue with that ?

Dilips post is fine only in parts but most of it is totally crap. He says his living standard has gone down because of L1s and H1bs and herds people coming from india, Dude you need to understand that this recession has not been caused by H1b and L1s or other IT workers coming to US, its because of the real estate boom and foolishness of american people who believed that real estate prices will keep on rising to INFINITY.. i don't have to explain how this recession started i hope majority of the people knows about it.. so stop blaming IT workforce for your living standard.. another example.. just seen what happened to GM and chrysler.. they failed to understand the market for small cars and fuel efficient cars.. instead they produced gas guzzlers like hummers.. so do you think they have the brightest minds. Don't think just by getting a GC or citizenship will certify that your the brightest of all still waiting in the GC queue. I am not sure how many people believe in luck... but i do. I don't matter how bright you are and how hard you work you need some luck also..

If the person is technically good or has good apptitue the best he can do is hang on to his job for years and also pray that his company doesn't go bankrupt (there is not fault of this bright employee :D in this case). Dilip was talking about some flush, this flush will wash all the bad apples and also some good apples.. good people also leave after getting frustrated with immigration system (of this developed nation, which doesn't keep track of its visa numbers, moves dates forward backwards by two years :D big joke They can't even predict visa dates. ) Instead of coming up with bill for fixing the credit market and financial system, he(Grassley) should concentrate more on strict reforms and more regulation for financial system, the root cause of recession instead of beating around the bush with immigration system.. He is trying to use the emotion of the local people.. those who have GC fall for such policies because they know they are ahead in the queue and more jobs will be available to them if few IT works immigrate (There are lot of jobs for citizens and GC only). I agree with what you said except I would add those past mid 2004 instead of 2005 as hopeless situation in eb2 india. I dont think the Eb2 India will ever move past March/april 2004. Infact with every visa bulletin the EB2 india dates will start moving backward to 2003-2002. One silver lining is Eb3 to eb2 porting will be completely useless. It now takes atleast 6 monts for perm to clear( this is the best case), EB2 is almost impossible to get, if you take a risk and apply in eb2 almost gaurenteed for audit. atleast now we have a clear picture of how many decades(no pun intended) it takes for eb2 and eb3 India to get there green card. My guess is obama\durbin\grassley are figuring out how to kick us out. I remember one of the tactics that the conservatives proposed for kicking out the illegals was to make it difficult for illegals to get employed by imposing heavy fines on employers for hiring illegals. Obama durbin and the democrats are using the same tactics with just a minor difference, instead of illegals they (obama\durbin et al) are going after legals by issuing RFE on EVL even for 485 etc etc etc. Basically they want to haress and make us so dejected that we will leave US and they can keep our social security taxes for wealth redistribution. most of us (atleast the people who graduated out of US universities) gave the prime part of our lives for this country, now we are being treated like we are not even humans. I am an optimist and try to see the brighter side - and that side here is that we know there is no hope for those past 2005 in the next two years. That to me is sufficient to make decisions and move on. Be it changing to a different job or going back to the home country - most probably the former for me.

In my case i am in 6th year of h1b and am eligible to get 3 years extension as my I-140 was approved more than 2 years ago.
Some members had said it takes anywhere between 10 days to more than a month or so.
Please advice us who are waiting for visa extensions based on approved I-140, as to what we should do to mitigate this pims delay.
Because people like me get 2-3 weeks holiday to go back home and if the stamping gets delayed then everything including our job is at risk.

I have many friends and these body shoppers don't pay for their medical insurance and all of my friends have a tough time - even Kforce etc doesn't pay if you're a contractor directly hired by them. Infosys, TCS pays and provides all kinds of benefits for people on H1, I don't know what ppl are against companies that have good business practice.
Deloitte, Accenture, IBM brings ppl from other countries on L1 - why balme Infosys, TCS.
Check what they are paying. I know a company which charges $110-$130 ph to the client and payes around $30K for the employee in L1. Is it good business practice...? Not only desi consulting cos...these a$$ also the reason we are in this mess today. Just imagine when the antis comes to know that 30K pa salary....

My wife works there and I have told her to put in many years there even before she considers a change. Why did you leave them man? You asked for all your present day troubles due to this decision.
Now you are saying , L1s will dump low cost MBAs. Do you know the value of IIMA? First qualify for the college and get a admission and then say it is low cost education. You are not even trying for that college, coz you know you wont get in. Now you can get 1 yr PGPX MBA in IIM-A for 20 lakh Rs (USD 40K), but I bet the quality of graduates is better than your 100K MBA. Before dismissing them as low cost, do some introspection of talent.
My friend did MBA from IIM-B, he is a top performer, today he is a managing partner in Wipro consulting. No doubt he started like me at 60K salary in US, but look at his performance and rise. I respect him a lot. He doesnt have GC yet. I have tons of friends from Whartons, Kellogs, UChicago , IIM-A etc. The college I respect most is IIM-A.

Now I am planning to move to a different role of Management (Project Manager) to Employer B.
what would be the better way of doing for the above said role.
My current H1B is expiring on Nov'2008 (Six year term). I have to ask my employer to do the extn. But the employer doing is very minimal.
I have applied EAD in Aug'2008. - I am not sure when this will arrive.
Now I am into the state of More confusion. I couldn't able to do anything as far as in terms of career path.
Would like to enlighten some thoughts on this situation and Thanks in Advance.

Currently I am working for an Employer A in consulting position ie., Senior Developer Role. Current Project is ending in Dec'2008
